How much does it cost?
The prices can vary greatly. The furniture stores, such as IKEA, JYSK, MÖMAX or XXXLUTZ usually establish a certain percentage of the gross purchase price plus a standard call-out fee. However, the independent providers tend to quote hourly rates for assembly services. There can be significant differences in the amount of time, work and tools required for assembling furniture due to external factors and manufacturing quality that should be considered, too.
Some of the issues experienced on a daily basis:
Uneven, porous walls and surfaces (especially in old buildings);
Uneven floor (due to poor quality of execution);
Limited space for work (due to overcrowded conditions);
Missing parts/fixtures, misaligned screw holes, etc.;
Missing elements due to delay in delivery (out-of-stock items), making it necessary for our colleagues to come back another time.
IKEA chest of drawers: 1 to 2 hours
Unit with hinged / sliding doors: 1 to 3 hours
Dining table: 1 to 2 hours
Pull-out sofa: 1 to 3 hours
Double bed: 1 to 2 hours
Wall-mounted shelving unit: 1 to 3 hours
Please consider that different types of furniture may require significantly different assembly times, also as a consequence of manufacturing quality. Ask for a quote in any case!
Easy-to-assemble furniture (e.g. bedside cabinets, chests of drawers, units with hinged doors, dining room sets, single beds) generally require 1 specialist. Assembly typically takes 1 to 3 hours depending on type and quantity.
Large, heavy furniture (sofas, units with sliding doors, double beds, wall-mounted furniture) generally require 2 specialists. Assembly typically takes 2 to 5 hours depending on type and quantity.
